Design and Technical Notes: The Z’dain Custom was a high performance mobile suit based on the MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom and the Technical specifications of mobile suits such as the Hyaku Shiki and Rick Dias. The Z’dain Custom was designed by Alasdair Z’dain, who had become an employee of Anaheim Electronics after the One Year War. The Unit was designed to deal with some of the short comings of the Original Gouf Custom, by increasing its reactor output, which was simple with the advancements over the years.

The experimental reactor was built similar to the ones used in the RMS-099 Rick Dias, and based on the process of a ‘Deuterion Battery’. This new and experimental system functioned like a battery, with the deuterion storing the power coming from the nuclear engine and converting it into electricity, putting the reactor in a constant state of recharge. This didn’t grant the Custom more power output but drastically increased its operation time and operation time of beam weapons that drew power from the reactor. It also featured a flight pack based on initial designs for the thruster set up of the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki.

The increased reactor output and onboard thrusters and standard issue flight pack removed the Gouf’s biggest short coming, a lack of flight/space capability. Granting the MSN-07B-X more maneuverability then a Rick Dias but was considered inferior to the Hyaku Shiki as it lacked the Hyaku Shiki’s reactor power output. This was not considered a fault however as it still out preformed most mass produced and even some limited run high performance units.

The Z’dain Custom also had increased long and short range capabilities over the original Zeonic Goufs. Advances in weapons technology and access to Anaheim Electronics resources permitted the MSN-07B-X to be designed with two four barreled beam guns, one on each arm. These replaced the one three barreled 35mm machine gun mounted on the left arm. These beam guns drew power from the suits reactor, the Deuterion battery effect of which permitted the guns to operate longer then battery powered beam weapons.

Also mounted on each arm was a “Slayer” Heat Rod/Whip similar to the heat rod of the original type A Gouf. Due to advances in the technology the Heat Whip was of equal strength to the original but half as thick and thus twice as long. The inclusion of two whips allowed the Mobile Suit to attack two targets ant once, and preform 360o spinning attacks when surrounded. The shocks produced from the whip could overload a mobile suit, much like the Heat Wire of the MS-07B-3.

The MSN-07B-X replaced the MS-07B-3’s Gatling Shield with a larger more combat oriented shield. The shield was roughly 15% larger then the Gouf Customs shield and featured a more aggressive sharpened look, and featured two large spikes that could allow the shield to be used offensively. The edges of the shield were sharp enough to be used as an effective weapon should the need arise. The shield also housed an advanced beam sword, which was based somewhat on the old superheated weapons of the One Year War.

The Sword was based on advancements over the years on Beam Based melee weapons. The sword collapses to a size a little smaller then the old Type D III saber. When activated it un-collapsed to be just under twice the length of the shield. A field of energy identical to that used in beam sabers then forms around the blade, granting it both an energy and physical blade for slicing. The Beam Sword was on par of the beam sabers of current age units. In conjunction with this however the MSN-07B-X carries two beam sabers similar to the ones on the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki on recharge racks on its waist armor.

In keeping with its close range combat heritage the standard hand weapon of the GOUF was a custom built “Beam Shot Rifle”. Instead of firing a long ranged single beam the blast spread into several smaller beams over a shorter distance with a power rating of 3.5 MW. With a simple command the rifle could fire single beams at greater range, but the power rating dropped to 2.8 MW. The weapon in either mode had a shorter range then the XBR-M87A2 rifle, and less power at longer range, but was a much more versatile weapon. Just as the Gouf was a more versatile Mobile Suit.

The MSN-07B-X Guardian Of Universal Freedoms biggest asset however was its variable use combat packs. While the standard pack was the X19a Flight Pack the GOUF was capable of utilising several other packs including a Combat Support Pack, Fire Support Pack, and Underwater Support Pack.

Cockpit: The cockpit of the MSN-07B-X is of a slightly different design then the Panoramic/Linear seat cockpits of the Hyaku Shiki and Zeta Gundam that the suit shares designs with. Instead of a spherical like surface covered by a continuing screen the cockpit of the MSN-07B-X has three large screens one to the front and one to each side. along with this are nine smaller screens that can be customized to display a number. Alasdair, the suits pilot, generally had the bottom center screen displaying the rear camera, the bottom screens screens displaying Reactor Power levels/ ammo, sensors, and

thruster levels and altitude data. The three top displays generally showed communications channels, one to his coordinator, and two dedicated to team mates.

The Cockpits controls were extensive, with numerous foot controls and hand controls for leg, arm, and weapon operation. A keyboard and touch screen with stylus allowed for operating system changes and graphical data to be displayed. The screen could also act as a quick system select screen. And over the shoulder targeting system allowed the MSN-07B-X to engage targets at long range and use compatible sniper weaponry.

History:

Note: Unlike previous models the term GOUF stood for an acronym created by Alasdair Z’dain Guardian Of Universal Freedoms. This represented the MSN-07B-X’s purpose and the drive of the creator and pilot. Z’dain, once a combat specialist for the Principality of Zeon, had whitnessed evil on both sides of the war. This lead his personal belife to form into the thought that all people, spacenoids, and earthnoids, had universal freedoms that should not be violated. It was these violoations by the Titans that drove him to join the AEUG.

Subject: No More Newly Imported Books in the Philippines; the Reason Why
To:

Grr! This news makes my blood boil! Picked this up on a blog and I’m spreading the news to help stop this outrage.

In the last few months, the importation of books into the Philippines has virtually stopped. (To those of you who frequent bookstores, I don’t know if you’ve noticed.) The reason why is explained in this article by Robin Hemley, a University of Iowa creative writing professor currently on a fellowship in the Philippines.

If you have no time to read the article, the essence is that because the Bureau of Customs has decided to impose duties on the importation of books into the Philippines.
This, despite the 1950 Florence Agreement on the Importation of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Materials (which you can see here), which the Philippines ratified in 1979. The preamble of the agreement states: “Considering that the free exchange of ideas and knowledge and, in general, the widest possible dissemination of the diverse forms of self-expression used by civilizations are vitally important both for intellectual progress and international understanding, and consequently for the maintenance of world peace…”, an indisputable proposition.

here’s an excerpt from Robin Hemley’s article (i shortened it a bit. better if you can read the whole thing.) -

…Over coffee one afternoon, a book-industry professional (whom I can’t identify) told me that for the past two months virtually no imported books had entered the country, in part because of the success of one book, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The book, an international best seller, had apparently attracted the attention of customs officials. When an examiner named Rene Agulan opened a shipment of books, he demanded that duty be paid on it.

The importer of Twilight made a mistake and paid the duty requested. A mistake because such duty flies in the face of the Florence Agreement, a U.N. treaty that was signed by the Philippines in 1952, guaranteeing the free flow of “educational, scientific, and cultural materials” between countries and declaring that imported books should be duty-free. Mr. Agulan told the importer that because the books were not educational (i.e., textbooks) they were subject to duty. Perhaps they aren’t educational, I might have argued, but aren’t they “cultural”?

No matter. With this one success under their belt, customs curtailed all air shipments of books entering the country. Weeks went by as booksellers tried to get their books out of storage and started intense negotiations with various government officials.

What doubly frustrated booksellers and importers was that the explanations they received from various officials made no sense. It was clear that, for whatever reason—;perhaps the 30-billion-peso ($625 million) shortfall in projected customs revenue—customs would go through the motions of having a reasonable argument while in fact having none at all.

Customs Undersecretary Espele Sales explained the government’s position to a group of frustrated booksellers and importers in an Orwellian PowerPoint presentation, at which she reinterpreted the Florence Agreement as well as Philippine law RA 8047, providing for “the tax and duty-free importation of books or raw materials to be used in book publishing.” For lack of a comma after the word “books,” the undersecretary argued that only books “used in book publishing” (her underlining) were tax-exempt.

“What kind of book is that?” one publisher asked me afterward. “A book used in book publishing.” And she laughed ruefully.

I thought about it. Maybe I should start writing a few. Harry the Cultural and Educational Potter and His Fondness for Baskerville Type.

Likewise, with the Florence Agreement, she argued that only educational books could be considered protected by the U.N. treaty. Customs would henceforth be the arbiter of what was and wasn’t educational.

“For 50 years, everyone has misinterpreted the treaty and now you alone have interpreted it correctly?” she was asked.

“Yes,” she told the stunned booksellers.

Throughout February and March, bookstores seemed on the verge of getting their books released—all their documents were in order, but the rules kept changing. Now they were told that all books would be taxed: 1 percent for educational books and 5 percent for noneducational books. A nightmare scenario for the distributors; they imagined each shipment being held for months as an examiner sorted through the books. Obviously, most would simply pay the higher tax to avoid the hassle.

Distributors told me they weren’t “capitulating” but merely paying under protest. After all, customs was violating an international treaty that had been abided by for over 50 years. Meanwhile, booksellers had to pay enormous storage fees. Those couldn’t be waived, they were told, because the storage facilities were privately owned (by customs officials, a bookstore owner suggested ruefully). One bookstore had to pay $4,000 on a $10,000 shipment.

The day after the first shipment of books was released, an internal memo circulated in customs congratulating themselves for finally levying a duty on books, though no mention was made of their pride in breaking an international treaty…

Please forward this or disseminate this in any way you can. In the name of reading.

Test Flight: Phase One: Vertigo

Its was pitch dark inside the spherical cockpit of the prototype AC-132. Only the eerie glow of the luminous blue numbers of the mission clock. Vincent’s silvery eyes watched the clock countdown to the start of the test. He would be testing everything, from the docking systems to the redundancy of the air tanks. Being a test, the start up would be slower than normal, in an emergency the ‘commentary’ would be cut, but for normal actions, what Vincent was about to do, would be the norm.

When the Mission clock hit 00:00:01 Vincent got to work and started the computer. ~Welcome~ started a soft female voice ~AC-132 Prototype Unit Start-up sequence initiating.~ There was a soft whine behind Vincent, and his seat vibrated for a split second. ~QuadFusion Reactor Online, Power Feed Ratio Nominal, Oxygen Flow Rate 5 by 5, Inertial Dampeners online, Astral Ion Drive Warm-up Cycle starting… T-minus 5 seconds till optimal ignition. Initiating User Interface and HUD.~

All around him the reactive materials embedded in the cockpit material began to spring to life. Energy readouts, inactive ammo counts, Shield statuses blinked, reading offline, engine status popped up showing it was ready for ignition, dozens of status displays appeared all around him in the cockpit, including a status display that showed he was still docked with his Mothership.

~User Interface Online. Initiating Active Scanners.~ Green circles and triangles began popping up all around Vincent in the display. Each Triangle was a friendly ship of light freighter size or smaller and the circles capital ships, and stations. ~Now displaying Neutrals~ several blue triangles popped up in a small group to Vincent’s 3 o’clock low, a convoy of freighters inbound. ~No hostiles to be displayed.~

Vincent took in a deep breath, did a final check on his flightsuit and hoped for the best, “Disengage docking camps.” ~Affirmative~ There was a thud, and Vincent watched as the 10 meters of launch tube rushed by, the only thing accelerating the ship a magnetic field that pushed him at about point two five megalights a second and tilted him downward so he was 90 degrees different from how he began.

When Vincent watched the last section of the tube pass him, he thumbed the ignition switch and the Astral Drive fired up and caused Vincent to lurch back into his chair. After 15 seconds of acceleration Vincent dialed back on the accelerator and set in the speed at 80 Megalights. “Callista?” ~Yes Master Vincent?~ “Mission objectives?”

~Accessing.~ another pause, perhaps there was an issue with the ships processing power? ~Objective 1. Flight Performance. Objective 2. Combat Performance. Objective 3. Hyperdrive Test. Objective 4. Emergency Docking Test.~ “Good, begin objective one.” ~Activating NAV markers~ A series of squares glowing a bright purple appeared on the screen. Twenty four in total, each showing a markers each representing a part of the course he had to pass through. ~Activating Timer~

A second timer appeared, counting up, and Vincent shoved the accelerator forward and thumbed the booster button. The ship lurched forward, accelerating hard 10 megalights a second, Moving from 80mglt to its max speed in 2.5 seconds. The Control yoke fought him as he piloted the ship into the first waypoint. ”This isn’t good, the ship is fighting controls at max speed. It will need to be smoothed out, maneuverability is more important than an array of weapons.”

The first leg of the course was simple, a nice curving starboard maneuver, but after hitting waypoint 11 the course shifted drastically to port a maneuver forcing Vincent to pull back hard on the accelerator and yank the yoke back and to the left as far as it would go. The ship protested, the engine roared, and his stomach flipped, but the ship came through intact if not opposite the vertical plain it had been on. ”I’ve half a mind to demote who designed this course…” ~You designed it sir~ “In that case I give myself a pat on the back.” the last word was strained as Vincent pushed the ship down into a spiral to make it through two more waypoints.

Vincent eyed the rest of the course, he remembered it now, and cursed “Callista.” he jerked the ship starboard into the 16th waypoint. ~Yes Master?~ “Remind me later, to suggest this course to Kev.” ~Yes Sir.~ Vincent rolled the ship 360 degrees, and thanked the fact that gravity wasn’t an aspect of this flight. “Dial the Inertial Dampeners to max and bring the reactor up to combat status, this ones gonna hurt. ~Acknowledged.~

The whirling noise from behind him grew, almost to a roar with the combination of the reactor and the astral ion drive. And the view in front of him made his heart leap up into his throat. He remembered it all now, how he designed the course, the final section, was the most taxing move Vincent had ever experienced in all his life of flying. ”The Immelmann loop…”. Without a second more thought however, Vincent accelerated the ship forward past waypoints 19 and 20 and jerked the control stick back

Vincents stomach turned as he watched the stars blur from the maneuver half way through the flip he slammed his foot down on one of the maneuvering thruster pedals beginning a quick 180 degree rotation so he’d come out of the loop at the same vertical plane as he started. ~Waypoint 21 reached… 22… 23…~ the ship leveled out and shot forward straight through the final waypoint. ~Waypoint 24 reached, Objective time, 2 minutes 17 seconds. Logging data… complete. You may begin Objective 2 at your leisure.~

Yeah, give me a moment will you? In a fully functional ship that isn’t the most comfortable thing to do.” ~Acknowledged, I will await your command to begin stage 2.~ Vincent sighed, and leaned back into the chair and read the data from the first test. “She needs better Inertial Dampeners. The same kind used on the Aeternus. Make a note of that. Maneuvering at top speed is more sluggish that is acceptable we need to address this.” ~Anything else?~ “Yes, Pilots will need to be made aware of the possibility of vertigo.” ~Noted~ “Good, display the location of the next objective…”

New Years

So i just brought in the new years 90 minutes ago. Listening to last FM, alone, in my room, the only thing close to family in here with me, an image of my late mother and me hanging on the wall. I’m not sad, well i am sad but thats not the point. No, the point is, its been nearly a Year since mom passed on, and I’ve managed to make it. The event in life that for years i thought would make me want to lay down and Die, has happened, and i’m still here.

I have been beaten and broken, but never destroyed!
I have seen the depths of madness, the darkness of sorrow
I have seen the gates of hell, and through out it all, I am still here.

It Defends that which you hate.

Christians say they hate homosexuals because the bible says they should. Christians forget that hate is a sin. Those that do claim, “But God shall forgive my sins!” but those Christians forget, that god will forgive the Homosexuals to. Its easy to hate when you hide behinds something, but its not so easy when that which you hide behind also defends that which you hate.

The bible says homosexuality is a sin, but the bible also condemns many things that people do every day. The CEO who stares at his secretary when she’s not looking? A sinner of lust. The religious activist in front of the courthouse with a sign preaching against Gays? A sinner of wrath. The woman who sneaks in a bite of chocolate because she loves it. A sinner of gluttony. The man who refuses to give up a dollar to a homeless man because he had rather use his money himself? A sinner or greed. The girl at the high school, who spreads rumours about another woman because she gets more attention? A sinner of envy. The high school football jock who brags about his recent touchdown? A sinner of pride. The teen who refuses to help his mother in the yard cause they’d rather play games? A sinner of Sloth.

superbia, avaritia, luxuria, invidia, gula, ira, acedia. Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth. These are not just seven sins, no. Wrath, hatred, fury, anger, rage. They are all part of the sin. A sin, is a sin, is a sin. And we are all sinners. But God doesn’t hate the Sinner. No, He hates the sin. He made us imperfect, he knew we’d make mistakes. So don’t hate the person next to you cause they like people of the same sex, no. Love them. They are still a Child of God, and God loves them. God loves them despite what they’ve done and will forever love them. It doesn’t matter the persons Sexuality, Religious Beliefs, the colour of their skin, or the language they speak. God loves every one of his creations, no matter what decisions they’ve made.

All of it or none of it.

Isn’t there supposed to be a rule? the Separation of the Church and the State? The State does not control/interfere with the Church, and the Church does not control/interfere with the State? I do recall that in my years in school. This isn’t the United Christian States of America or the United Jewish States of America or United [insert religion] States.

I’m not saying the bible is Right, or wrong. But we he have a rule about not using religion as a basis for political decisions, It should be a decision about equality. A gay person, a Bi person, they are no less human than Me, they deserve the same rights as everyone else. It shouldn’t matter what a religious text says, this nation was built by men seeking freedom from Tyranny. And telling people that they can’t get married because texts written so long ago, is Tyrannical to the extreme.

We do not stone adulteress, as the bible says we should, we do not condone slavery, as it was written by Saint Paul i believe, in fact saint Paul not only stated that and that Homosexuality was unnatural but that /all/ sexuality was unnatural and all those who were children of god needed to abstain from an unatural urge.

We do not make women wear veils outside of home, as it is in the bible as well as the Qu’ran, we do not force them to not speak in public nor do we not allow them to not receive education. as it is stated in the bible to do. We are not to eat seafood, nor are we to say the gods name in vain, and i’d like one Christian to raise their hand and say they have never done it once in their life. If there is one they are truly unnatural.

To be jealous is a sin, but we have all been so at one time or another, or will be. It is not correct to enforce one part of the bible to hate a group of people while dismissing another that would bother our way of life.

Its just like the common assumption the Jesus was killed by the jewish. No, and this is a quote.

“The Jews did not kill Jesus, It was a prevailing mentality that slew the holy Nazarene. This mindset was pepped with intolerance for deviations the Christ was known for. He sought to throw out the soulless traditions and hollow practices of a religion wrought with blood lust and retaliation. All in favor of a living faith known for patience understanding and above all else the notion that ‘all you need is love’.

So he picked and chose the teachings of love while invalidating the hateful aspects that people love to lord over others. And then people [just like those who use the bible against gays/bis and the like] didn’t like the way he played fast and loose with the scriptures of old. [The] messiah was killed because he didn’t follow the writings other people said he should.

Two millenia later, and people have still learned nothing. The love driven, living, evolving faith that Christ brought to his people is still a fantasy. And those that claim to be following in his footsteps, instead espouse the same mentality and practices that got him crucified in the first place.”

And a tad more… What of Jonathan and David? Why is that relationship not counted in this? or Ruth and Naomi? Or that biblically speaking Jesus spent majority of his time with 12 men? or the Apostle that is referred to as “The one whom Jesus loved.” Can anyone say that it wasn’t literal? No, because no one from there is alive, nor is there any original copies of the bible available to be read by the public. What we have, is as it was interpreted by other people. That said, we can’t throw one verse at people and use it to condemn them while avoiding the one that places us on the pedestal of sin.

You dress like a hobo…

So, i went to the only place in this backwater town to ask for a job that i haven’t already Maxway. I walk in, and i see three women, running around the store trying their best to do stocking for the up coming holiday season. And struggling. I walk up to the lady who’s the manager and ask “Ma’am? are you hiring anyone for stocking for the holiday season?”

The lady looks at me, then to the other two woman who are running around doing everything from running the cash register to putting up stock. “No, i have a full crew.” well i knew it was a lie but i’m not gonna argue that fact so I left. When i get home, my grandmother looked at me and said “Well if you dressed nicely you could get a job, cause you look like a hobo.”

I ask this question, when was the last time you saw a hobo in an Xbox 360 t-shirt and cargo pants?
